This beautiful Boab tree stands in the Northern part of the Kruger National Park near the Luvuvhu River. It’s a privilege to be able to still see and paint these old giants, whose numbers are drastically declining all over Africa. I believe every painting of a Boab tree is a truly special way to preserve a lasting memory of these majestic and iconic trees for our generations to come.
To be honest, it took me quite a while to finish this painting. In addition to the ever-time consuming, painstaking detail – which is my favorite part of the process – my family and I had some personal challenges to deal with as well. As I slowly progressed with this tree, I realized that difficult challenges in our lives do leave scars, and I wonder how many challenges this tree had to face in it’s growth to becoming a giant. Even so, the older it gets, the more beauty it gains and character it builds. I think the same goes for us; every scar makes us stronger and wiser and more appreciative for and towards life, enabling us to live every day ever more to the fullest.
A special thanks to Peter Pischler for your photo that I used as reference for this painting. Many thanks to Art canvas factory for the quality canvasses and speedy service they provide.
