Maximus, King of Malelane

Acrylic on box canvas

100 x 70 cm / 39 x 27 inches

My latest painting is of a well-known leopard named “Maximus”. He is frequently spotted in the vicinity of Malelane Gate of the Kruger National Park for a few years now.
These gorgeous cats are very intelligent, elusive and shy. Keeping to themselves, they tend to lurk in dense riverine bush, emerging to hunt when light grows dimm. That makes this rare and beautiful shot of Maximus at night-time super special. A big thanks to Philip Venter who took the reference photo that I used. He says he loves following these cats and getting to know them.
