Heavy rain on the horizon in the Kgalagadi

Acrylic on stretched canvas

90 x 60 cm / 35 x 23 inches

The unreliable and irregular rains fall mostly during dramatic thunderstorms in the Kalahari.

This is a special scene for me where one can already smell the rain properly and wait for the thunder that will strike within seconds while the sun casts its last golden glow over the Kgalagadi’s grassland ….

I love painting landscapes so much and I always try to the best of my ability to capture the moment that it feels like you are standing there yourself. What could be more beautiful than the ever-popular old windmill and pond adorning these famous red dunes. It is the joy that painting brings to me, to just for a moment escape to a place close to your heart when you look at it.

Thank you Theuns de Bruin for the beautiful reference photo I was able to use.
